Match Shows: Match show's provide a useful learning experience for the amateur dog handler they give you the opportunity to see how well you and your dog measure up to other dogs being shown. The age limit usually starts at two months so that puppies can have four months of training before they compete in regular shows when they reach six months.
Point Shows: At Point shows your dog will be judged on conformation to his breed standard. You can contact akc for the guidelines for your breed or many guidelines are available on the internet. Your kennel club can give you the names and addresses of the show superintendents near you, where you must write for an official form. You will be sent a pamphlet showing the names of the judges, and a list of prizes and trophies, a list of shows and dates where they will be held and a form to fill out for entering.
Puppy Class: Puppy Classes are for dogs six months of age thru twelve months which are not champions.
Novice Class: Novice Classes are for dogs six months of age or older whelped in the United States or Canada which has not won three first place prizes in the Novice Class or one or more points toward championship.
Bred-by-Exhibitor Class: Bred-by-Exhibitor Class is for dogs whelped in the United States that are six months of age and older. They must not be championsand must be owned wholly or in part by the person or spouse of the person who was the breeder on record.
American-Bred Class: American-bred Class is for all dogs except champions six months of age or older, whelped in the United States by a mating that took place in the United States.
Open Class: Open Class is for any dog six months of age or older, except in a member specialty club show held only for American-bred dogs.
Winners Class: Winners Class you earn the right to compete in by winning first prize in one of the above. |
